for Urgent Medical Treatments For Krista Guloien Temple

MEET KRISTA

She's an Olympic silver medalist in rowing, and two time Olympian.  She is an author, speaker, and cancer warrior.  She is a mother and wife, sister and daughter, friend, colleague and mentor.

In 2022, Krista was diagnosed with breast cancer, which put her resilience to the test.  Together, modern medicine, natural methods, and her warrior spirit, she was able to fight and overcome the disease.

Sadly, Sunday March 10, 2024, Krista went to open a pickle jar and her arm broke. The ambulance came and took her to the hospital. From there, the doctor confirmed that the arm in fact is broken and the bone looks irregular.

We have now confirmed she has 6 bone lesions and the cancer is back. She now needs more than ever to focus on the treatments that could save her life.

RESILLIENT AND ACCOMPLISHED

Krista is widely recognized for her hard work, consistency, and her innate sense of "boat feel."  She became a respected team leader due to her ability to push and motivate people simultaneously.

Her dedication and unwavering commitment paid off in August 2012 when she won a silver medal for Canada in the women's eight competition. Krista's exceptional achievements in rowing at the national level, World Cup Regattas, World Championships, and the Olympic Games, rank her as one of the greatest female rowers in Canadian history.

PASSION FOR ROWING

Krista's passion for rowing began when she joined a learn-to-row program at Simon Fraser University in 2001. Inspired by great Canadian rowers like Silken Laumann and Marnie McBean, Krista was determined to compete in the Olympics one day. She quickly rose through the ranks and after completing her studies at SFU, she joined the National Team in Ontario. In 2008, Krista competed in her first Olympics, an impressive accomplishment that showcased her meteoric rise in the sport.

ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG ATHLETES

Krista is an outstanding example for young athletes, dedicating countless hours to educate, coach, and mentor them. In addition to her coaching, she generously donates her time to several community events and charitable causes.

Krista has recently joined an organization called Her Time.  The Her Time girls program takes a strengths-based approach to empower young females to stay safe and healthy while achieving remarkable things in their lives. The foundational pillars of the Her Time program are organized into a playbook that focuses on positive relationships, healthy living, financial independence, goal setting and personal safety.

What Happens when the Endorphins Fade

Authors of Influence Podcast - Krista Guloien interview by Jenn Swanson
00:0000:00

Synopsis:

Are you an athlete transitioning from a career in sport and silently struggling along the way? Or perhaps you didn’t realize how you would feel when your athletic career ended and how difficult transitioning to life beyond would be.

You are not alone. Krista’s forthright tell-all of her journey to the 2012 Summer Olympic rowing podium, as well as what came after, will help you find closure and peace, as well as a safe place to relate, laugh, and reflect on the “what next?” after sport.

In sport, as in many other high-pressure niches, strength is an asset and discussion about weakness is not openly publicized. In telling her story Krista is unmasking the face of retirement from sport. You will find relief in realizing that representing something strongly doesn’t mean you always feel strong inside. Not only are admitting weakness and showing vulnerability encouraged by Krista, she will show you that sharing and uniting in struggle is actually part of the healing process.

Breaking the silence and candidly sharing her struggles, you will hear a relatable account of what happens emotionally and physically after your athletic career ends and be better prepared when it is your time. You will gain insight into the journey of chasing a dream and, more notably, perspective on the journey that commences when you retire and begin to navigate the world beyond full-time sports.
